About Me

Hi! I’m Michael Catanachapodaca!

I specialize in helping people understand the real-world value of their belongings during life transitions: downsizing, estate settlement, relocation, and major cleanouts.

My focus is practical, not academic.

I help answer the question most people actually have:

“What is this worth on today’s open market - and what should I do with it?”

My Background

I have spent the past several years working hands-on in the antiques and collectibles market.

My experience comes from:

  • Daily exposure to real buying and selling environments

  • Ongoing study of historical and contemporary market trends

  • Extensive use of verified sales databases and auction records

  • Direct observation of what actually sells (and what does not)

This is not theoretical pricing. It is market-based valuation grounded in current demand.

Outside of antiques, I also have significant experience as an archival picture framer, as well as degrees in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History, and Film Studies, from Cornell University.

How I Work

My approach combines:

  • Careful physical inspection

  • Comparable sales research

  • Category expertise across antiques, vintage, and collectibles

  • Clear communication without jargon

I focus on transparency. I explain how values are determined and what factors affect them. Clients receive realistic expectations, not inflated estimates or sales pressure.

My Role

I work as an independent market-value consultant.

That means I help clients:

  • Understand current resale value ranges

  • Identify which items matter financially

  • Avoid wasting time on low-value property

  • Choose the most effective selling paths

My goal is clarity, not confusion.

Ethics & Objectivity

I am not tied to any auction house, dealer network, or estate sale company.

My recommendations are based on market evidence, not commissions.

If a formal certified appraisal is required for legal or tax purposes, I will say so and refer you to the appropriate specialist.

I believe clients deserve the right level of service, not the most expensive one.

Who I Serve Best

My services are ideal for people who:

  • Are overwhelmed by the volume of belongings

  • Want honest, research-based guidance

  • Are navigating emotionally difficult transitions

  • Need practical answers, not legal paperwork

My Philosophy

Most people don’t need a courtroom document.

They need a clear, calm, trustworthy guide through a complicated moment.

That is the role I aim to fill.
